PARLIAMENT AND CIVICS EDUCATION REBATE PROGRAM (YEAR 6 CANBERRA TRIP)
Year 6 students from our College recently undertook an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. We are very fortunate that the Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate Program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

AN ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDING DESIGN
As part of the Year 11 Physics Area of study of Thermodynamics, students were to design an energy efficient house, apartment or block of classrooms suitable for the metropolitan area of Melbourne. They had 8 lessons to plan and create their model however, they could do certain parts at home as well.
The goal was to reduce power costs by saving on heating and cooling costs through an energy efficient design. The task required a design which excludes heat in summer and keeps heat in the building during the cooler months. Features included the position and design of windows or vents, house orientation, the type of materials in the building, the colour of exterior surfaces, landscaping around the building, the roof type, use of heating and cooling systems.
Students then presented their projects and explained the features of their design. It was exciting to see students research and reason out certain aspects of a house design, that we probably would not fully consider when buying a house.

A WORD FROM THE CHAPLAIN
John 3:16:
God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.
This is a bible verse that most people learn or know off by heart and it is at this time of the year where we remember the amazing sacrifice that Jesus made for us.The bible reading puts it very simply.
“A man, yet God, who was sinless, blameless and faultless took on every single person’s sin and gave his life for us all”.
Why the sacrifice? Why would a God who created all things do that for each and every one of us? Because he loves us all so very much. If a great big God can love even the most sinful person amongst us, then surely we can love Him and each other. So let us show the love of God this holiday and every day.
God bless you all over the holiday break and may you be refreshed and ready to go for another term.
