Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you - Ephesians 4:32
Unconditional Positive Regard
Our College Values are many and are all connected to the concept of being kind to one another. Love one another. This idea connects strongly with the academic notion of unconditional positive regard. The students in the Senior Years are encouraged to think this way and we are now seeing this concept bearing fruit in the way students interact with staff and their peers. The question in any situation is, “Are you being kind?”, if the answer is no, then that has to be addressed by re-evaluating the issue at hand and re adjusting mindset and actions.
The celebration week for the class of 2019 was an excellent example of a cohort being kind to themselves and others. They approached their leaving with grace and humility and were honouring of each other, their parents, their teachers and the College Community as a whole. We were so proud of them during that week, from their Walk of Honour right through to the fabulous evening that was the Valedictory Dinner. Their wonderful attitude continued to through the whole of the VCE Examination period. The Exam Supervisors commented on how exemplary the attitude and behaviour of our students was. We wish the Class of 2019 all the very best in their future endeavours.
The baton was passed on to The Class of 2020, who approached their examinations with the same attitude and carried with them to their Canberra camp where they embraced the week and the activities in Canberra with open minds and extended grace and kindness to a cohort of students from another school who was sharing their accommodation.
Future planning is so important and the Year 11 and 10 both visited Deakin University in Geelong, as part of their career pathway investigations. This was a wonderful day, both staff and students were exposed new courses and new possible pathways.
Student achievements
On the 30th of October, immediately following his VCE English exam, GNLC Year 12 student and 2019 Captain, Shannon Van Boven, attended an award ceremony at Emmanuel College, Point Cook.
The award ceremony was coordinated by WynBay Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) and they awarded Shannon $1000, under the Youth Potential Scholarship program. The actual award was underwritten by the Sharma Family. This award was one of several given to VET students who were in Year 11 and 12 in the Wyndham area. We congratulate Shannon on this wonderful achievement.
