Harmony Day this week was truly a wonderful event.

We are an incredibly blessed community to have such a rich and diverse number of cultural backgrounds, that all contribute to who we are collectively. As I’m sure many of you did, walking around the College in the morning as students were arriving, all proudly wearing something of significance or importance to their family and cultural history, was such an uplifting way to begin the day.

Our Prep to Year 7 students all then begun the day with some entertainment from a German folk band, who reflected both the language of German studied at Good News, as well as the Germanic heritage of the Lutheran Church. At the same time, our Year 8 to Year 12 students were treated to a visit by the Planet Boom youth band and wider team for their chapel.

The day was a great reminder of the blessings of diversity that God has created in us.

Hopefully by now nearly everybody has booked in a time over the next few weeks to spend some quality time with their child at a Student Led Conference. We strive to help every one of our students understand how to be life-long active participants in their own education, with a strong sense of self and community.

Student Led Conferences are core to this - the key here is ‘student-led’ – that is, the responsibility and ownership lies with the student and allows for student voice in their own learning process. In return, the undivided attention of two key supports in their learning, their teacher and parents, can speak volumes to a student about their worth and importance.

If you haven’t yet managed to book in a conference time for your child (and they are only 10-15 minutes long), we encourage you strongly to make time to do so.
