Middle Years Programme
Since 2018, Good News has been implementing the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) across years 6 – 10. The IB MYP is one of four programmes offered by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) and follows on from the IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) which is offered between years Prep to 5. The MYP acts as a framework that shapes teaching and learning experiences of the Australian Curriculum.
What is the IB MYP?
The IB MYP is an inclusive, holistic framework that values the education of the entire person. All students across years 6 – 10 at GNLC participate in the MYP and study the following subjects:
- Language and Literature (English)
- Mathematics
- Sciences
- Individuals and Societies (Humanities)
- Language Acquisition (German)
- Physical and Health Education
- Arts
- Design
- Christian Studies
Students in the MYP not only acquire content knowledge, but are invited delve deeply into the concepts that underpin their learning. Units of work are placed within a global context, providing relevance to learning and developing both local and international perspectives.
Skill development is a key focus in the MYP, as is the development of the 10 positive attributes found within the IB Learner Profile:

- Thinkers
- Communicators
- Principled
- Open-minded
- Caring
- Risk-takers
- Balanced
- Reflective
The MYP concludes with a long-term, self-directed project. This a culmination of the development, both academic and personal, that has taken place across the MYP.

Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is a value that aligns with the GNLC mission, to provide a Christ-centred holistic education.
Students are encouraged to conduct themselves in a Christ-like, ethical manner, and part of this is acting with academic integrity.

Teaching and Assessment in MYP
While MYP teachers deliver the content outlined in the Australian Curriculum or Christian Studies Curriculum Design, units of work are structured using the MYP framework and MYP unit planner. All units of work are designed to allow students opportunities to meet the objectives outlined within MYP subject guides. The table below outlines the objectives for the MYP subjects, as well as within Christian Studies.

All assessment tasks are assessed using the criteria found within the MYP subject guides. The table below outlines which MYP criteria are used to assess each year level within the MYP:
