Year 11 Camp
From Monday 21 November through to Friday 25 November the Year 11’s will be in Canberra for their camp. We will be gathering at 6.30am on the Monday morning, an early start for a long journey but it will be worth it.
The camp will include an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programmes, with a focus on Australian history, culture, law and democracy. There are clear links to VCE studies, particularly Legal Studies, Studio Art, PE and History and give contextual background to a variety of texts studied in English.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their civics and citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of this camp, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate programme towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the College upon completion of the camp.
The students will also be considering leadership, what it is and how they can be leaders in the College and the community in general. To enhance this understanding we will have a guest speaker coming in one evening to talk to the students and share their life journey as a social advocate.
